Biography
Born and brought up in Scotland, Joanne Miller completed her undergraduate degree at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama studying with Lev Atlas and Ruth Slater. After playing in the Britten Pears Baroque Orchestra in 2006, Joanne decided to move to London to study Historical Performance at the Royal Academy of Music. During her time at the Academy, Joanne had the privilege to study with Jane Rogers and Rachel Stott and to work with many esteemed musicians such as Trevor Pinnock, Laurence Cummings, Rachel Podger and Sir John Eliot Gardiner.
Since graduating from the Academy, Joanne has built up a busy freelance career performing in concert halls and theatres throughout the UK and abroad. She has performed as principal viola with the Academy of Ancient Music, Dunedin Consort, La Nuova Musica,European Union Baroque Orchestra, Armonico Consort, Old Street Band (English Touring Opera), Longborough Opera, Solomon’s Knot, Oxford Baroque and St James’ Baroque. Joanne has also contributed to numerous CD recordings and has appeared live on BBC radio, on television, and at the Proms. Joanne is also a founder member of Spiritato with whom she has performed and recorded with extensively throughout her career.
Recent highlights have included performing a programme of music by Monteverdi with La Nuova Musica at the Wigmore Hall and touring “Inspiring Bach” with Spiritato.
